About Our Chapter
The New York State Chapter of the Club Management Association of America, Inc. is located in the following defined territories: Western & Central New York, including Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Yates, Livingston, Allegheny, Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, Tompkins, Jefferson and Lewis Counties and all WEST thereof plus the Counties of Crawford, Warren and McKean in Northern Pennsylvania, as contemplated in the original Chapter’s Charter of 1938.
CMAA - NYS Chapter supports three colleges and their hospitality programs in this area: Niagara University, Buffalo State College & SUNY Delhi. Buffalo State College & Niagara University both have Student CMAA Chapters.
The CMAA - New York State Chapter is a Not-for-Profit corporation formed for the purpose of promoting and advancing friendly relations between and among persons connected with the management of Clubs. ​
CMAA Objectives
To enhance the member’s professional status through certification;
To advance the club management profession and to assist individual CMAA members and their clubs;
To effectively communicate with members, clubs, government, the news media and the general public, and to develop and maintain publications and other material;
To provide a wide variety of educational programs and materials to meet diverse educational needs;
To encourage high ethical standards in dealings with fellow club managers’ clubs and others;
To assist CMAA members in their career development and in job opportunities and to assist clubs in securing management personnel;
To interpret and report on changing social, government and economic conditions affecting club management;
To recruit and retain members and to manage the Association in a manner that will effectively represent the views of its members;
To foster appropriate relations with other organizations which will contribute to the objectives of the club industry and CMAA's members;
To conduct research and develop, analyze and disseminate information/data related to club management and the club industry; and
To provide innovative programs, products and services for the successful operation of clubs.
NYS Chapter Events
education sessions
We aim to host at least four education sessions each year, offering a well-rounded mix of topics for mid-managers, department heads, and general managers. Each program is designed to strengthen leadership, deepen industry knowledge, and provide practical takeaways that can be applied immediately at your Club. These sessions also create valuable opportunities to connect with peers and learn from leaders Nationwide.
Chapter gathering at world conference
Each year, CMAA’s World Conference brings together club management professionals from across the country for education, networking, and industry-wide collaboration. During this multi-day event, our Chapter hosts a dedicated social gathering for NYS members, providing an opportunity to reconnect, build relationships, and share experiences in a relaxed setting. It’s a meaningful tradition that helps strengthen our Chapter community while we are together on the national event.
Can-am club managers golf tournament
The Can-Am Golf Tournament has been held annually since 1996 as a friendly, long-standing competition between Club Managers from Western New York and Southern Ontario. Sixteen managers from each side of the border compete in an 18-hole match play event, with the winning team taking home the Uli Hahn Polar Bear Trophy. The tournament embodies camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the unique cross-border partnership shared between our Chapters.
Directors golf classic
The Directors Golf Classic is our annual scholarship fundraising tournament, bringing together members, sponsors, and industry partners for a day of golf in support of our Mid-Manager and Student Scholarship Programs. The event features lunch, an elevated dinner reception, and a silent auction, with all proceeds directly benefiting educational opportunities for future club leaders. It remains one of our Chapter’s most impactful and highly anticipated events each year.
great Lakes regional conference (glrc)
The Great Lakes Regional Conference brings together nearly 100 students, mid-managers, general managers, and department heads from the New York State, Greater Cleveland, and Pittsburgh Chapters. This multi-day conference features high-level education, leadership development, and meaningful networking opportunities designed to strengthen clubs across the region. It has become one of our most collaborative and dynamic annual events, uniting three Chapters in a shared commitment to professional growth.

The Annual Meeting serves as an important touchpoint for our Chapter, where leadership reviews the accomplishments of the past year, presents fiscal budget reports, and discusses key initiatives. Members participate in voting matters as needed, ensuring transparent governance and an engaged, informed membership. The meeting concludes with the swearing-in of new Directors, marking the start of the Chapter’s next year of service and leadership.

The Past President & Club Manager of the Year Dinner is a signature celebration recognizing leadership, service, and excellence within our Chapter. Each year, we honor our outgoing Past President, present the Club Manager of the Year Award, and celebrate our scholarship recipients for their outstanding commitment to professional growth. Guests enjoy a formal dinner featuring culinary excellence, an open bar, and exceptional wine, making this elegant evening a highlight of the year and a cherished opportunity to connect and celebrate together.
